WWC-NOVA is the first regional center of Whitman-Walker Clinic. It was established in 1988 as a distinct program for Northern Virginia residents who are HIV-positive and members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, regardless of HIV status. The Northern Virginia service region includes the cities of Falls Church, Alexandria and Fairfax, and the counties of Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun and Fairfax. The facility is accessible for the disabled.  All services are provided with complete client confidentiality.

Primary Medical Care
Primary medical care is available at WWC-NOVA for anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV status. If you would like to see a doctor at Whitman-Walker, please fill out our registration form and our medical intake form. These forms are PDF documents, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open them. You can download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat by clicking here.

After you have completed the forms, call (202) 939-7690 to make an appointment and bring the completed forms with you. Completing the forms in advance will save time during your visit.

STD and HIV Testing and Counseling
We offer free confidential HIV testing during our regular business hours.  You do not need an appointment to be tested. Just come in during regular business hours. In most cases, our OraQuick tests will give you your test results in less than a half hour. STD testing and treatment is done by appointment. Clients individually sit with medical professionals to determine which tests should be administered. Most test results are available in less than one week.  We test regularly for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis A/B/C and herpes simplex among others. There is a $25 minimum charge for tests, and fees are determined on a sliding scale – those who are unable to afford total costs for testing and treatment are provided these services at reduced rates. We accept cash, debit and credit cards and checks in payment. We also accept a great number of health insurance plans.

HIV/AIDS Case Management Services
Case managers provide vital links to HIV/AIDS services, both within and outside of WWC’s facilities. Case managers begin by conducting preliminary interviews with HIV/AIDS clients to ascertain the client-required services which include, but are not limited to, medical, dental, mental and behavioral health, prevention and education, bodywork and legal services.

Case managers and clients jointly identify client needs and develop an individual plan to meet those needs. Case managers provide confidential advice, accessing such resources as food banks, addiction and mental health treatment, housing, transportation, financial assistance and a myriad of other services.

Our case managers provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services for our Latino clients, which include a professionally-facilitated educational support group conducted in Spanish.

Mental and Behavioral Health Services
You do not need to be an AIDS or HIV client to receive these services.  Individual, couples and group psychotherapy are available to all our clients. There aresupport groups geared to coming out and HIV-related matters. All mental and behavioral health services are provided with complete confidentiality. For a current list of all WWC support groups and psychotherapy groups for mental health and addictions and HIV/AIDS in the metropolitan D.C. area, click here.

Legal Services
WWC-NOVA’s Legal Services Program provides confidential assistance with HIV-related legal problems at no cost to the client. The legal services staff can provide legal advice, representation and counseling to help clients with life-impacting matters pertaining to employment discrimination, insurance, estate planning, immigration and other areas.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Basic health education and presentations about HIV/AIDS and STDs are available to the general public by contract to residential and correctional facilities, through targeted street organizations and through information booths at community-based health fairs and gatherings. In addition, our staff will provide prevention management to people who may be at high risk for infection.

Body Work
WWC-NOVA offers appointments for massage therapy and other bodywork services provided by trained volunteers who offer safe, non-sexual body massage, energy work and other types of bodywork.

Healing Garden and Labyrinth
This area offers a peaceful haven for WWC-NOVA’s clients, volunteers and staff and for the community at large. It includes a classic seven-circuit labyrinth, which offers visitors repeated turns that encourage focus and inner clarity. The creation of the Healing Garden is a collaborative effort of volunteers, donors, businesses and organizations. The labyrinth was made possible by a grant from the TKF Foundation.

Services in Other Languages
WWC-NOVA works with the Northern Virginia Area Health and Education Center to provide HIV-related services by interpretation and translation.  We ask that clients who need this service stipulate it when they make their appointments with us. Our languages include, but are not limited to, Spanish, Amharic, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic dialects and American Sign Language.
