WHITMAN-WALKER CLINIC COLLABORATES WITH CARL VOGEL CENTER IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS

Clinic Physicians to Provide Medical Care at Carl Vogel Center

WASHINGTON – Whitman-Walker Clinic will provide medical services to patients of the Carl Vogel Center under a recent agreement between the two non-profit health care organizations. Beginning Sept. 10, Clinic physicians will see patients at the Carl Vogel facility at 1012 14th St., NW.

Whitman-Walker Clinic stepped in to fill a gap left by the departure of the Carl Vogel Center’s sole staff physician. This collaboration arose as both organizations look for additional opportunities to stretch limited resources in response to the current economic climate.

“We felt a responsibility to help a valued community partner in the Carl Vogel Center,” said Don Blanchon, executive director of the Clinic. “Whitman-Walker’s commitment to the health of our community doesn’t end outside of our facilities. We want to do all that we can to ensure that people who need integrated primary and HIV health care, which is the case for the vast majority of Carl Vogel patients, receive the quality, compassionate care they deserve.”

“This endeavor is one of several collaborations that Carl Vogel Center has embarked upon to bring quality care to the residents of the District and we are very excited about this opportunity to collaborate with Whitman-Walker,” said Lloyd H. Buckner, executive director for the Carl Vogel Center.

Established in 1978, Whitman-Walker Clinic is a non-profit, community-based provider of health care in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. Through two sites in the District of Columbia, the Clinic offers primary medical and dental care; mental health and addictions counseling and treatment; HIV education, prevention, and testing; legal services; and medical adherence case management. Whitman-Walker Clinic is committed to meeting the health needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and people living with HIV/AIDS.
