Volunteers are needed for Whitman-Walker Clinic’s premiere special event, "A Celebration of Life Spring Gala." This year the theme for the event is "Hollywood on the Hill" and this is your chance to be a part of the excitement "on camera" and "backstage." Plus, your help will ensure the evening’s overall success.
The event is on Friday, May 30, and volunteers are asked to be available from 5:30 until 11:30 pm. In addition, all volunteers are required to attend a pre-event briefing Thursday, May 29 from 6:30-7:30 pm.
Some of the areas where you may be asked to help include:
- Smiling as you check guests in at registration
- Mingling as you help guests at their tables
- Assisting guests with their shopping spree at the auctions and checkout
Questions? Contact volunteer wwc.org or (202) 797-4421. Here are some answers to some common inquiries:
Q: How do I sign up?
A: You can submit your information online.
Q: How much time do I need to commit?
A: Volunteers must be available for the entirety of the event from 5:30 until 11:30 pm on Friday, May 30. In addition, volunteers are required to attend a pre-event briefing Thursday, May 29 from 6:30-7:30 pm.
Q: What do I wear?
A: "A Celebration of Life Spring Gala" is a black tie event. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately. Keep in mind that you can expect long periods of standing and lifting light and moderately heavy objects plus brief periods of brisk walking. Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended along with outfits that allow for a full range of motion.
Q: How do I get there?
A: The Andrew W. Mellon auditorium is located at 1301 Constitution Ave., NW. It is steps away from the Federal Triangle metro stop on the blue and orange lines. Paid parking is available at the Ronald Reagan Building.
Q: Where will I be seated?
A: Due to the limited capacity of the venue, volunteers have been reserved a private room outside of the main auditorium. This space will be available for the entirety of the evening for storage of personal items and for a meal break (note that the volunteer lounge will not be locked). Food and refreshments will be provided.
Q: What will I be doing all night?
A: Volunteers will be assigned one-two tasks for the evening. You will work closely with a staff lead who will provide instructions, answer questions and help you with any issues that may arise.
